Learning the Jump from Desktop to Mobile in Coding
- What has your experience learning to code been like so far? What would you change about it?
My experience learning to code has been pretty interesting so far. It’s crazy how I can be typing things into my computer, not knowing what they mean, then learning about one thing and BOOM — it all clicks in my head and it’s like adding another piece to the puzzle. The only thing I would consider changing about it would be taking it a slower step at time, and going in a different order. At times it feels like I’m learning things in a backwards order but I’m excited to see if this actually turns out to be a great teaching and learning strategy in the end.
2. How do you describe the DOM as you know it so far?
The technical definition for the DOM is that it is the DOM (Document Object Model) is a programming interface for HTML and XML documents. I see the DOM as the “face of the HTML brand”. It’s what everyone sees.
3. Can you explain the difference between coding a website to be responsive and using a mobile-first strategy?
Coding a website to be responsive means starting with the desktop display first and then working your way to what the mobile version would be, mobile first is the opposite. Starting on the mobile version first and then working towards desktop display.
4. What does coding look like to you in your mind?
In my mind it looks like coloring hair. A client showing a picture of what they want their hair to look like, you formulating what developer and color to use based on how dark and the undertones, mixing those together, applying it to the hair, which then creates the end result. The hair the client wanted.
5. Where do you see yourself working in 365 days from today? What do you want to be working on?
My dream would be to work in the beauty industry or cosmetology industry. Creating a better platform for them to market their skills, schedule and book clients, and created a better connection between the cosmetologist and the client.
